A few weeks ago, my friend Reeves, who heads up the children’s church program at our church, asked me for a bit of help. She was given a (relatively) small budget and permission to update the children’s church room.

Hallelujah!

If your church is anything like mine, the kids are still playing with the exact same toys we were playing with in 1989. There’s also a particular odor…? Of course the kids aren’t phased at all. This is the smell of their people.

Mercy.

Help us, Jesus.

Let’s face it, it’s mainly the adults who are sacrificing their time to teach and love on these kiddos every week that are going to appreciate the make-over the most. And that’s ok. I told Reeves she’d have people asking to help with children’s church after we’re done. She laughed.

Challenge accepted.

Here’s the lovely room currently:

Here’s the design board for the new space:

 And all God’s people said,

AMEN.

I love your designs! Practical, comfy, and a unique touch of southern elegance that is perfect anywhere!!ReplyCancel

Well, 2015 was a whirlwind!

I hate that it’s taken me so long to introduce you properly to this newly renovated Destin beauty. This home was completely renovated and redesigned for resale, and I’m happy to say it is under contract.

We’ll do a little before & after show below.

So, without further ado….

{AFTER} Entry

In the entry, there were TONS of columns, and arches, and soffits….and marble floors with black accents…all GONE!

Next up…

{AFTER} Guest Bath

As you can see, the previous owners loved murals…and leopards…or jaguars?? Anyhow, that cat no longer watches over guests in the bath…and the black marble has been banished.

On to…

{AFTER} Guest Bath Two

In Guest Bedroom Two, we eliminated the natural woven shade that wasn’t covering any window (??) above the bed. We also de-muraled the bathroom…and tossed out some faux flowers. The fleshy marble floors were replaced with beautiful Peacock Pavers on the first floor.

Next on our tour is the Bunk Room. Here is my first “Before” picture failure. Some how I didn’t manage to capture this room in all its original glory, so I’ll just set the scene….

-Yellow walls

-One pair of bunk beds…full on bottom twin on top….and not cute ones from Resto

-A closet with no doors

-Fishing nets on the wall as art

I do have a photo of the bath before, so that will be after the Bunk area After’s.

I promise I put a plantation shutter on that window!

Next, we move up stairs to the main living area. But first, the stairs themselves…

{AFTER} Stair Railing

This is pretty self explanatory. Out with the scrolling and scrolling and scrolling.

Next, the former Kitchen and Dining area…

{AFTER} Kitchen & New Breakfast Nook

We got rid of a wall and all columns and murals, and added custom cabinets and a massive {awesome} island that is perfect for beach entertaining. We also took out a window–which is where the new range is located.

The new dining area {which was formerly nonexistent} is next.

{New Dining Area}

IMG_2929

{BEFORE} New Dining Area

This deserves a little explanation. This railing and opening down to the first floor was literally taking up half of the living space on the second floor, so we closed it up! It’s now home to the new dining area.

{AFTER} Living Area

We removed arched soffits and moved the fireplace location. This area received hardwood floors–which really helped with flow. This coffee table is one of my favorites {Resto}. It is HUGE. Perfect for rainy day beach puzzles and board games!

Next on the tour is the Powder Bath / Guest Bath Three.

{AFTER} Powder Bath / Guest Bath Three

This is my favorite vanity….give me all the bamboo accents! This is also the ONLY room in the whole home that did not have its floors replaced. Did you notice? Didn’t think so. You were just relieved the crimson marble counter top was gone…me too.

Ok, Guest Bedroom Three. This is my second “before” photos fail. It had a full size bed, a dresser, and a MASSIVE {not in a good way} mirror. It was just lovely.

{AFTER} Bedroom Three

The fabric I used on the headboard is one of my favorite fabrics. I use it a  LOT. I should probably find a new favorite…but I probably won’t.

Let’s move up to the third floor, which is the Master Suite.

{AFTER} Master Bath

Again, out with the murals, columns, soffits, and the black marble…on the floors and counter tops. And, most definitely out with the bright lacquered brass shower.

Here’s an “after” of the exterior:

{Exterior}

{AFTER} Exterior

The exterior before was a creamy ivory/yellow, and the railings were just as lovely as the ones that were inside. I failed at a before photo there too.

Our objective was to bring a little 30A to Destin, and I think we did!

All {AFTER} photography was captured by Fresh Grace Photography. Insane talent. And also a really good sister.

Hope you enjoyed!

Hi, I’m admiring all the beautiful work you did! Wondering if you could divulge the cabinet colors? Love them! Thanks very much.ReplyCancel

  • JamieApril 29, 2016 - 12:18 pm

Well done! I really like seeing a designer change walls and reorganize a space, rather than just swapping out old for new. Your design thought process is right inline with mine.

I really like the paint color of the kitchen cabinets and bath cabinets. What line of cabinetry did you use and what is the color?

    Thanks-

Hi! I’ve been searching the internet looking for end tables like the ones in the living room- the wood ones with the lamp. Can you help? The whole room is gorgeous and I am modeling mine after it!ReplyCancel

So a few weeks ago, Anna won my E*Design contest. YAY!

She promptly sent me any email with photos of her space a detailed description of things she needed help with. Her husband may or may not have asked if she was writing a thesis. Husbands! 🙂

Anna was concerned about her family’s living room being dark, the retro formica that tops her window seat, and then there was that peach tile around the fireplace…

Here are a few photos of Anna’s current space:

Anna describes her style as traditional. So, I pulled together what I call “new” traditional–which has traditional elements, but is functional and comfortable for a young family.

Here is my E*Design for Anna’s living room:
